SUBJECT: VENT DAMPER REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

Some Effikal brand vent dampers (involving all sizes) that were manufactured between July 1, 2007 and March 1, 2008 have developed cracks on the plastic ears connecting the motor assembly to the mounting bracket.  If both ears break, the motor assembly could disconnect from the bracket.  If this occurs, the boiler may light with the vent damper in the closed or partially closed position.   

This replacement program involves Effikal brand PC vent dampers only. 
The Effikal motor assemblies affected have black plastic bases and black plastic caps.

The vent damper must be within the serial number range OR date code as listed in the chart below.

For affected vent dampers still in inventory at a wholesale distributor, please:

  1. Identify all gas boilers in your inventory from the list above which contains vent dampers.
  2. Set aside all the vent dampers that are within the serial number range OR date code range listed in the table.
  3. Call Customer Service at 1-252-522-3031 for a Return Goods Authorization number (RGA#) and shipping instructions.  Once Effikal receives the RGA shipment, we will expedite an identical replacement shipment back to you.

For affected vent dampers sold to contractors, please:

  1. Wholesalers, place a stocking order for RMA-AL replacement motor assemblies from Effikal, Effikal Part #70009000.
  2. Notify all installers who purchased gas boilers from the
    manufacturers above.  
  3. Advise installers of the Vent Damper Replacement Procedure, found at this website by clicking here effikal.com/contractor.
